The *other* James Bay Road

Postby James » Mon Jan 01, 2007 12:57 am

Amazingly, apparently there is another James Bay Road but this one is on the Ontario side of James Bay. It runs from from Moosonee through some coastal towns up to Attawapiskat, a distance of several hundred km. It is an ice road only drivable during the winter. And apparently this road is not connected to any other road so trying to get there would be a problem. I cannot even find the road on a map. Can anyone find a map showing the road?

Nevertheless, for the dedicated remote roadies out there here are two sites about the James Bay Winter Road including photos.

I believe there is rail service to Moosonee, ON. I don't know if they let you take a car on the train.

Here is a link to a detailed map of the James Bay Winter Road. Note that this road travels the WEST coast (Ontario) of James Bay, not the east coast (Quebec).

Interestingly, the road appears to continue north and west beyond Attawapiskat but this map doesn't show it's destination.
