River Threatened
Enjoy this spectacular river
while you can! A deal was negotiated between the Quebec Government
and the Grand Council of the Crees of Quebec in October 2001 which
would open the way for the Rupert River to be diverted for a
hydro-electric power project by Quebec Hydro - the controversial
James Bay 2 project.
Some of the Cree people are
willing to sell out the Earth for modern "development",
while others are seeking to preserve this part of the Earth in its
relatively untrammeled state for future generations.
This deal was APPROVED by the Cree in Feb/2002
