Along the James Bay Road are
emergency phones. Cell phones are useless up here. It's a good
idea to only travel up in this region if you have a reliable
vehicle. A breakdown could be very costly in terms of towing
fees alone. |

|
My next stop was the Broadback
River at Km 232. This view is looking upriver from the bridge.
A trail runs through the forest to the rapids that are just
visible in the distance. |
|
|
The trail leading to the rapids.
Lichens and blueberry shrubs are very plentiful, in among the
black spruce trees.
Still lots of blackflies around. |
|
|
And here's the rapids. |
|
|
A closer view. Although these
rapids may seem big and spectacular, they're a tiny rivulet
compared to what's up the road!! Read on. |

I spent some time here, listening
and watching the river flow by through the rapids. I also did
some exploring, looking for wildflowers. This is Glaucous
White Rattlesnakeroot. |
|
|
And this unusual flower:
Narrow-leaved Gentian. The flowers never open more than you see
here. Bees know how to get in to get at the pollen and nectar,
though. And there were lots more.
Eventually I was ready to move on. |
