My next stop of interest was the Rupert River! This spectacular raging wild river is slated to have 2/3 of its flow diverted in 2007. Hydro Quebec is diverting this magnificent river to feed the greedy appetites for electricity of southern Quebec and New England. Some simple conservation measures would eliminate any need whatsoever for this project.

There are a lot more photos, movies, and information in the Rupert River website.

I took a "gazillion" photos (and a number of movies) of this awesome spectacle, as I wanted to document it before it was stolen from us.

I'll just share a few with you here, but there are LOTS more on the Rupert River website.

There's a trail along the north side of the river. A couple of years ago this area burned in a forest fire. So this trail gave me a unique opportunity to see a forest re-growing from such an event.
Fireweed really does grow up in areas where there has been a forest fire.
Here's a view of the rapids upriver, on the north side.
I took lots of movies with my digital camera. Quite a few are featured in the Rupert River website, as I have already mentioned. Here are two for you to take a look at.

The first one is the longest, and so will take longer to download.

If at all possible, try to view it at high resolution. This will give you more of a "feel" for this awesome sight.

NOTE:
For each movie there is a "Regular resolution" and a "High resolution" version.

  • If you are on a broadband (high-speed) Internet connection, view the "high-resolution" version. This version is almost full-screen (640 x 480), depending on what resolution your monitor is set to.

  • If you are on a dial-up (slower-speed) Internet connection, you may wish to view the "regular resolution" version instead. This is a reduced size (320 x 240).
