Km 218 - a long lonely road. Generally speaking, after the first 100 kms or so, I only saw another vehicle every 1/2 to 1 hour.
First place to get fuel along this road - Nouchimi Outfitters at km 286. Fuel here was $1.75 per liter!
At km 308 there is a viewpoint of one of the dams that form the James Bay hydro-electric project - this one is "LG-4".
Nice small lake at km 337.
The sky is till clear!  :)
Typical scenery along this stretch. Trees, trees, and more trees. There's no logging activity this far north - it's not economically viable.
The Polaris River and bridge at km 358.
Mirage Outfitters, at km 358. This is the last place to obtain fuel along this road.

In Sep 2005 I didn't have a very good experience here. I am told that it is a MUCH friendlier place now, more oriented towards us the customers.

That evening, before checking in at the outfitter, I drove on down the road a few miles and came upon this "bone yard". It's where the hunters dispose of the carcasses of their kills. Here I heard a pack of wolves howling and barking very close by, as the moon rose after sunset. Amazing!

Yes, I did take the moon picture with my own camera - a Canon Powershot S2IS digital. The reason why it turned out so well is due to standard features of this camera: 5 megapixels, 12x zoom, manual focus, manual exposure and aperture control, and image stabilization.
