The next morning I was up and away by 5:30am. Easy to get up when there's an unknown empty road ahead to explore. But not so easy when you have to go to work!

This is at km 443. Notice how hazy it looks. That's from showers that moved in, and gradually turned into heavy rain. Can't win!

As I was driving along this morning I passed what looked like a small pile of dark-coloured rocks. I turned around to have a look and it turned out to be a pile of bear scat! Right in the middle of the road!

I suppose that could be an alternate definition of a remote road ... a bear deposits its scat in the middle of the road, and no one has run over it yet!

Here's what the typical forest looks like along here - deep lichens amongst the widely spaced jack pine and black spruce trees (km 472).
Nice fall colours.

This morning while I was on the road, in 5 hours I saw only three other vehicles!

A recent forest fire. Fires up here are mostly caused by lightning.
km 487
km 499
km 500

The eastern reaches of this road are nice, as the forest comes up fairly close to the road. As you can see from this photo, the road is smaller (narrower) here.

Thick lichens and miniature black spruce trees.
Nice rapids at km 516
